Definition

• Victoria University founded in 1880 in Manchester incorporating Owens College and subsequently other colleges in the north of England. In 1903 granted Royal Charter as Victoria University of Manchester and Leeds and Liverpool became separate universities. This name remained the legal title, and also that of University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, until Charter revoked by University of Manchester Act 2004.
