HL Deb 11 October 2004 vol 665 c10WA
Lord Astor of Hever

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What role they consider the Royal Corps of Military Police has in expeditionary deployments; and why they are not included amongst the list of force elements shown in the tables on pages 15 to 18 of Delivering Security in a Changing World: Future Capabilities (Cm 6269). [HL4219]

Lord Bach

The role of the Royal Military Police (RMP) in expeditionary deployments is primarily a supporting one, involving the provision of regulation, protection and information. They operate as key enablers but are not shown in the tables on pages 15 to 18 ofDelivering Security in a Changing World: Future Capabilities (CM 6269), which focus on the large unit elements of deployable forces. Up to two Regular Regiments of the RMP may be attributed incrementally to expeditionary deployments, depending on the scale of the deployment.
