To ask the Deputy Prime Minister how many staff the Department employs on a temporary basis through employment agencies; what percentage this is of total staff employed; and how much the Department paid employment agencies to supply temporary staff in(a) 2001–02, (b) 2002–03 and (c) 2003–04 to the most recent date for which figures are available. The Office was formed on 29 May 2002. At any one time the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister employs approximately 120 individuals through employment agencies, which represents around 5 per cent. of the total staff employed. Since June 2002 the Office has spent £4.2 million with employment agencies.
