HC Deb 11 May 2004 vol 421 cc196-7W
14. Mr. Blunt

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Mr. Sharon's disengagement plan and the realities on the ground to be taken into consideration in future negotiations. [171842]

Mr. Rammell

The UK welcomes Prime Minister Sharon's proposed withdrawal of all settlements from Gaza and four from the West Bank. We hope it will go ahead. As the Prime Minister said on 19 April, it is a statement of fact that final status negotiations cannot ignore the reality on the ground. But all final status issues, including borders and refugees, can be decided only by negotiations between the parties.

18. Richard Burden

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which Israeli settlements in the west bank, Gaza, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights are regarded as legal by the UK Government. [171846]

Mr. Rammell

We consider all settlements in the Occupied Territories to be illegal.
