To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many people are employed by the Insolvency Service; and how many were employed in 1997. [151009]

§ Mr. Sutcliffe
As at 1 January 2004, the full time equivalent number of staff employed by the Insolvency Service was 1,634.
The number of staff employed in the Insolvency Service in earlier years is published in the agency's Annual Report and Accounts.
