HL Deb 26 January 2004 vol 656 c20WA
Lord Taylor of Warwick

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider increasing the penalty for any person attempting to clone a baby in Britain. [HL866]

Lord Warner

The Human Reproductive Cloning Act 2001 makes it an offence to place in a woman a human embryo which has been created other than by fertilisation. The Act provides for up to 10 years' imprisonment and an unlimited fine on conviction. The Government have no plans to increase the penalty.
