HC Deb 07 May 2002 vol 385 c110W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how many ambulances there are in(a) England, (b) the West Midlands and (c) Coventry; and how many on average have been operational at any one time in the last 12 months; [53936]

(2) what measures he has taken since 1997 to increase the number of available ambulances.[53937]

Ms Blears

Information on the number of ambulance vehicles, and the number that are operational at any one time, is not collected centrally.

In 1999–2000, an additional £21 million was invested recurrently in additional frontline ambulance staff and vehicles.
