asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many (a) drivers and (b) passengers in taxis have been killed in accidents during the last five years for which records are available; and how many and what percentage of each were wearing seat belts at the time. [HL2333]

The number of taxi occupants killed are shown below:

1 Only those vehicles operating as a hackney carriage, regardless of construction, and bearing the appropriate district council or local authority hackney carriage plates.

It is not known what percentage of these were wearing seat belts at the time.
