HC Deb 15 January 2002 vol 378 c258W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what measures have been taken in each of the last four years to counter tax avoidance; and how much has been saved in each of those years. [26332]

Dawn Primarolo

Measures to counter tax avoidance are a regular feature of legislation presented to Parliament in the Finance Bill. However, it is not feasible to measure the difference between the amount of tax paid to the Exchequer and the amount of tax that would have been paid had these measures not been in place. It is therefore not possible to assess with any degree of accuracy the amount of tax saved as a result of anti-avoidance measures.
