HL Deb 08 May 2001 vol 625 c167WA
Lord Patten

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will set up an independent body to scrutinise and regulate advertising by the Government in the United Kingdom; and, if not, why not. [HL1912]

Lord Falconer of Thoroton

Government advertising is the responsibility of individual departments. It is subject to strict guidelines published by the Cabinet Office. The Advisory Committee on Advertising, whose members are independent, scrutinises government advertising and has done so for 61 years.
