To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much was spent by his Department on(a) research into the prevention of (i) domestic violence and (ii) fire-related deaths and injuries and (b) public awareness campaigns to prevent fires in the last 12 months for which figures are available. The Home Office spent a total of –8,769 on research into the prevention of domestic violence in the 12 months up to 31 October 2000. In the same period, a total of £856,463 was spent on research into the prevention of fire related deaths and injuries and £3,787,657 was spent on public awareness campaigns to prevent fires.
