§ Dawn PrimaroloAs a result of personal tax and benefit measures introduced during this Parliament, by April 2001, on average families with children will be £850 a year better off. The direct tax burden on a single-earner family on average earnings with two children is expected to fall from 20.9 per cent. in 1997–98 to 18.6 per cent. in 2001–02—it's lowest level since 1972.
