HL Deb 27 July 2000 vol 616 c71WA
Viscount Chandos

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What consultation has taken place about new procedure rules for appeals to the Immigration Appellate Authorities; and when will the new rules be laid before Parliament. [HL3695]

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Irvine of Lairg)

A paper highlighting the main issues was laid before Parliament during the passage of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. Recently, a wide range of users across the United Kingdom, and the Council on Tribunals, were consulted about draft new rules. Changes are being made following that exercise. A cross-section of users has been kept closely in touch throughout development of the rules and that dialogue is continuing. Once this consultation is over, the rules will be laid during the Recess.
