§ Miss Melanie Johnson[holding answer 20 January 2000]: 8,892 industrial and provident societies (I&Ps) are registered with the Registry of Friendly Societies (RFS). Based on the latest returns received, 992 and 739 have turnover less than £10,000 and £5,000 respectively. The Treasury receives occasional representations on fees payable by I&Ps to the RFS. Those fees are reviewed every year.
