HC Deb 24 January 2000 vol 343 cc25-7W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list the items in the National Assets Register sold by his Department, its agencies and associated public bodies since 23 February 1999, stating in each case the amount of money realised; if he will estimate the total amount raised from such sales to date; and if he will make a statement. [104497]

Mr. Wills

The total value of money realised from the sale of assets by the Department from 23 February 1999 to January 2000, its agencies, and associated public bodies since the publication of the information in the National Assets Register is £8,407,482.

Asset management is kept under close review, and those which are surplus to requirements are disposed of as quickly as possible, subject to value for money considerations. They are normally disposed of on the open market by public auction or tender. The exception to this rule is that in DfEE, good working IT equipment is gifted to education and employment bodies and projects via third party organisations. The table lists items reported as sold by the Department, its agencies, and associated public bodies since the information on assets was published in the National Assets Register.
