HC Deb 10 November 1999 vol 337 cc609-10W
Mrs. May

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will make a statement on the future of the M4 bus lane. [97773]

Mr. Hill

[holding answer 8 November 1999]: The M4 Bus lane is being monitored by the Transport Research Laboratory. Their reports on the first three months of operation show that all vehicles are benefiting from reduced journey times during morning and evening peak periods. Subsequent monitoring shows that benefits, similar to those achieved during the first three months of operation, are continuing to be achieved. Decisions on the future of the bus lane will be taken once sufficient operational experience has been gathered and comparable before and after monitoring data have been analysed.
