Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. Peter Bottomley, dated 10 November 1999: As Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your recent parliamentary question on the number of sudden infant deaths. In 1998, the latest year for which provisional figures are available, 284 sudden infant deaths occurred in England and Wales.
