Mr. Livsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many people in Wales are in residential care homes in the most recent year for which figures are available in the(a) 16 to 64, (b) 65 to 74, (c) 74 to 84 and (d) 85 years and over age groups; and in each of those categories if he will list the numbers funded by (i) the local authority on a means tested basis, (ii) the individuals themselves and (iii) the Department of Social Security through presented rights. The numbers of people in residential care homes in Wales at 31 March 1998 are shown in the following table.

Although information on sources of funding is requested from each home, it does not cover all residents. A more detailed age breakdown is not available.
