Mr. Livsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the(a) M1 management costs, (b) M2 management costs and (c) management consultancy costs (i) in total and (ii) as a percentage of income for each NHS trust in Wales for the last five years. [76920]

(a)(b) Figures for Ml, which consist of salary costs of only the more senior managers, together with the costs of management consultancy and M2, which adds in the salary costs of all other staff who work in corporate management function of NHS trusts, are available for 1995–96 to 1997–98. Prior to the introduction of the M1 and M2 measures, figures are given for "management costs".

(c) Information on management consultancy costs is not held centrally.

(D) Ml and M2 data were not recorded in NHS trust annual accounts prior to 1995–96.
(E) Management cost figures as quoted in PQ 875/95/96.
(F) On 1 April 1997, Pembrokeshire NHS Trust and Derwen NHS Trust merged to form the Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust.
