Which individuals and organisations are being consulted on modernising government by the Better Regulation Unit of the Cabinet Office. [HL1284]

Lord Falconer of Thoroton

The Government have established a Modernising Government discussion forum on the Internet. The Internet address is http://www. number-10.gov. uk. In addition, the Director of the Better Regulation Unit wrote to about 100 private sector consultees on 3 February 1999 drawing attention to the Modernising Government project and inviting comments at any time as the project unfolds. Further consultation with a wider range of consultees will also take place in due course.

In addition, the Director of the Better Regulation Unit wrote to a number of consultees on 3 February 1999 drawing attention to the Modernising Government project. He invited comments at any time as the project unfolds over next few years and also asked that any initial comments intended to be taken into account as the White Paper is drafted should arrive by the end of February.

The Modernising Government project is expected to last several years. The private sector has already been consulted and will be consulted again in a number of ways as the project unfolds. It is not intended that individual views and advice will be published.
