Information derived from the database of schools held by The Scottish Office to enable it to conduct the annual School Census and other surveys is given in the following tables. 1993 is the earliest year for which reliable information is available in this form. The figures represent the primary and secondary schools/departments added to or removed from the database. In a number of instances this may be for reasons other than closure, such as merger. Specific information on such circumstances is not held centrally.
