HC Deb 02 March 1999 vol 326 cc677-8W
Mr. Loughton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list those local authorities which no longer directly run(a) residential and (b) nursing homes. [74060]

Mr. Hutton

As at 31 March 1998, there were seven local authorities that did not directly run residential care homes for older people (including those who are mentally infirm). The authorities were Bromley, City of London, Knowsley, Somerset, Stockport, Tameside and Wandsworth. This information is taken from the Department of Health's statistical collection RA1998, Form A, Part 1. Data for 1999 will become available later this year.

Local authorities do not directly run nursing homes.
