§ The Lord ChancellorThe Attorney General has had ministerial responsibility for the Crown Prosecution Service ever since it was established by the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985. The Act provides that the Director of Public Prosecutions shall be the head of the Crown Prosecution Service and shall discharge his functions under the superintendence of the Attorney General.
