HC Deb 16 June 1999 vol 333 c191W
Siobhain McDonagh

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement on the outcome of the EU Youth Council meeting on 27 May. [87397]

Mr. Mudie

I attended the Council of Youth Ministers in Brussels on 27 May 1999.

The Council adopted common positions on the Commission's proposals to establish a new Youth programme, and the next phase of the Daphne programme of measures to combat violence against women and children. Council also considered a Presidency Memorandum stressing the importance of addressing youth issues in the context of employment policy, and noted that the Commission will adopt a Communication on implementing measures to combat child sex tourism.
