HC Deb 27 July 1999 vol 336 cc320-1W
Miss McIntosh

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) how many trees will be felled in the Vale of York in order to facilitate construction of the Lackenby to Shipton power lines; [93245]

(2) if he will make a statement on the requirements placed on the National Grid Company to disclose information on the number of trees to be felled in order to construct pylons in the Vale of York. [93244]

Mr. Battle

There are a number of planning conditions which the National Grid Company has to fulfil before it can commence work on the Lackenby to Picton to Shipton overhead line. Implementation of these is a matter for discussion between the company and the local planning authorities. In the event of disagreement it falls to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State to determine if the company has complied with the particular condition.
