To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, pursuant to his answer of 6 July 1999,Official Report, columns 523-25, regarding football study support centres, when he expects to be able to make an estimate of the number of pupils attending centres at (a) Birmingham City, (b) Bristol City, (c) Liverpool, (d) Manchester United, (e) Stockport County, (f) Southampton and (g) West Bromwich Albion clubs in the current year. These seven clubs will open their "Playing for Success" study support centres during the 1999–2000 football season. The number of pupils to attend each centre will be agreed between the centre's manager, the local schools, and the Local Education Authority. Bristol City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Stockport County and Southampton have appointed centre managers to take up post in September of this year; their estimates of pupil numbers will be available in October 1999. Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion expect to have centre managers in post in January 2000; estimates of their pupil numbers will be available in February 2000.
