HC Deb 26 July 1999 vol 336 cc76-7W
29. Mr. Stringer

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what recent representations he has made to the Football Association about the bid to host the 2006 World cup. [91367]

Mr. Banks

The Government are providing the fullest diplomatic and promotional support for The FA's bid in accordance with FIFA bidding guidelines. As Parliamentary time allows, I will continue to meet members of the FIFA Executive when they visit this country, and accompany the 2006 bid team abroad when requested.

I am determined that The FA's bid should continue to be pursued with the utmost vigour and integrity, and very much hope that the bidding process between now and July 2000 will be conducted in a spirit of friendly rivalry. I believe it is an excellent bid with a very good chance of success.
