HC Deb 12 July 1999 vol 335 c11W
Mr. Coleman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many affordable homes to rent were developed in(a) the London Borough of Wandsworth, (b) the City of Westminster and (c) the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in 1998; and if he will make a statement. [89468]

Mr. Raynsford

There were 266 additional rented social lettings provided in Hammersmith and Fulham in 1998–99 by registered social landlords, with support from the Housing Corporation's Approved Development Programme (ADP) and Local Authority Social Housing Grant (LASHG), 83 in Wandsworth and 196 in Westminster.

These additional social lettings come from new build, the purchase and rehabilitation of existing property and from empty properties brought into use for temporary social housing. The Approved Development Programme and LASHG also supports the provision of homes for shared ownership and incentive schemes which assist social tenants to move into home ownership and vacate their letting for others in housing need.

According to information provided to the Department by local authorities, there was no local authority new build in these boroughs during 1998–99 (other than any provided through LASHG).
