§ Mr. KidneyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what stage he has reached in the establishment of the National Family and Parenting Institute; [66736]

(3) what will be the arrangements for the selection and appointment of trustees for the National Family and Parenting Institute. [66737]
§ Mr. BoatengI hope to make an announcement on the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the National Family and Parenting Institute before April 1999.
I am being advised on the appointment of the Board of Trustees by a small group of representatives from key family support charities and others from the voluntary sector and professional bodies. The Trustee body will be broadly based, consistent with the suggestion of the reference group that it should not be too unwieldy.

§ Mr. BoatengI am satisfied that all new appointees to the Firearms Consultative Committee appear to have knowledge and experience—either direct or indirect—of some or all of the matters set out in section 22(1) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988.
§ Mr. SwayneTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the members of the Firearms Consultative Committee whom he has nominated in accordance with the provisions of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 together with the reasons for which they were appointed. [66936]
§ Mr. BoatengThe following persons have been appointed to the Firearms Consultative Committee:
The Government will not seek the power to appoint future trustees of the National Family and Parenting Institute, which will be an independent charity.
In applying for Government funding to take forward its work programme, the Institute's trustees will need to adhere to the grant conditions attached to the Family Support Grant which require that applicants must include a strategy to ensure that their services reach, are relevant to, and get taken up by black and ethnic minority organisations.
