HC Deb 25 February 1999 vol 326 c381W
Ms Roseanna Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when he expects to reach a decision regarding the future of the PFR Reprocessing Plant at Dounreay; what consultation he will carry out prior to reaching that decision; when he expects to receive options studies from the UK Atomic Energy Authority with regard to this decision; if he will place a copy of the option studies in the Library; when he plans to announce his decision; and if he will make a statement. [72334]

Mr. Battle

A comprehensive review by UKAEA of the options for handling PFR and other fuels awaiting treatment at Dounreay is nearing completion. I await UKAEA's formal proposals which will be subject to full and careful scrutiny in due course. I also intend to consult relevant Government advisory bodies and allow sufficient time to give proper consideration to the issues before making a decision. In accordance with the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information, the relevant facts and analysis of the facts important in framing the Government's decision on this issue will be published when we announce our decision.
