HC Deb 25 February 1999 vol 326 c394W
Mr. Hancock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what factors he takes into account when considering whether a prisoner released from a life sentence will be deported. [72936]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

The Immigration Rules require that, before a decision to deport is taken, full account must be taken of all relevant factors. These are listed in paragraph 364 of HC 395 Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules and include age; length of residence; strength of connections with the United Kingdom; personal history; domestic circumstances; compassionate factors; previous criminal record and the nature of any offence of which the person has been convicted and any representations received on the person's behalf. These factors would be taken into account in deciding whether a person released from a life sentence should be deported.
