To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much money has been raised by speeding fines issued by(a) speed cameras and (b) police officers, in each of the past five years. [71402]

The following Fixed Penalty notices and Endorsable Fixed Penalty notices, in respect of speed detection, were issued by the Royal Ulster Constabulary during the last 5 years:

Mobile speed cameras were first introduced in Northern Ireland on 1 October 1997. Therefore the first full year for which information is available is 1998. Up to 30 September 1997 speeding offences attracted a £20 fine and no penalty points. From 1 October 1997 they attracted a £40 fine and 3 penalty points.
