HC Deb 22 February 1999 vol 326 c44W
Miss McIntosh

To ask the Minister of State, Lord Chancellor's Department what representations he has received from the Scriveners Company concerning proposals to amend Scriveners' jurisdiction. [72159]

Mr. Hoon

Last year the Lord Chancellor undertook to review the desirability of preserving the monopoly of the Worshipful Company of Scriveners over notarial work in the central London area. As a result of this review the Department received representations from the Scriveners' Company in letters dated 10 June 1998, 25 June 1998 and 3 February 1999. The Company was opposed to the abolition of the monopoly.
