Mr. Hancock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1) what assessment he has made of the impact on road and rail traffic levels between London and Portsmouth of(a) an improvement in the quality of the rail rolling stock and (b) an increase in the frequency of main line rail services; [71559]

(2) what assessment he has made of the investment required to reduce main line rail journey times from Portsmouth to London by (a) 10 per cent. and (b) 20 per cent. [71562]
