To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how much he estimates it would cost to extend the payment of bereavement allowance from six months to(a) one year, (b) two years, (c) three years, (d) four years and (e) five years. [72282]

1. Figures are in 1998–99 prices and are rounded to the nearest £10 million. Figures for year 2020–21 are rounded to the nearest £50 million. The estimates for 2020–21 are broad orders of magnitude and are provided for illustrative purposes only.

2. Estimates are presented net of means-tested benefit offsets, in line with those in the Welfare Reform and Pensions Bill. Means-tested benefit offsets were estimated using the 1995–96 Family Resources Survey and the Income Support Quarterly Statistical Enquiries. They assume a constant offset ratio for each year.
