To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions who is responsible for co-ordinating road works in Central London. [70812]

Under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 each London borough is responsible for co-ordination of its own works and statutory undertakers' street works in its area. We have issued a Code of Practice for the Co-ordination of Street Works which requires the street authority to co-ordinate the execution of works of all kinds in the streets for which it is responsible.
