HC Deb 15 February 1999 vol 325 c450W
Mr. Laurence Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions for what reasons drivers approaching the age of 70 years are asked for the country of their birth; what purpose such a question serves in determining a person's fitness to drive; and if he will make a statement. [71137]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The second EC Directive on the driving licence requires the holder's place of birth to be shown on the driving licence.
