Mr. Whittingdale

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what powers the Government have to influence the tax regimes of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. [66122]

Dawn Primarolo

[holding answer 18 January 1999]: The UK Government are discussing harmful tax competition issues with the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man and expect that they will play a full and constructive part in international initiatives on this subject. Legislation on taxation matters has always taken the form of laws enacted by the island legislatures.
