HC Deb 11 February 1999 vol 325 cc375-6W
Ms Roseanna Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to receive the conclusions of the Reporter to the public inquiry into the proposals for a superquarry at Lingerbay on the Isle of Harris; when he will make a decision; what assessment he has made of the costs of retaining the reporter since her retirement; and if he will make a statement. [70353]

Mr. Macdonald

The Reporter expects to complete her report and recommendation for submission to my right hon. Friend by the end of March. Once the report has been received, every effort will be made to announce an early decision.

The Reporter has, since her retirement in December 1996, received fees and expenses of some £51,000 in respect of her continuing work on the Lingerbay report.

From 1 July 1999 this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
