Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the maximum penalties for(a) throwing an object from a bridge, (b) throwing an object from a bridge causing serious or slight injuries and (c) throwing an object from a bridge causing death, on (i) motorways, (ii) other roads and (iii) railways; and what plans he has for changes in the maximum penalties. Placing wood, etc. on railway with intent to obstruct any engine etc. Section 35, Malicious Damage Act 1861 Life imprisonment
Obstructing engines or carriages on the railway. Section 36, Malicious Damage Act 1861 2 years' imprisonment
Placing wood, etc. on railway with intent to endanger passengers. Section 32, Offences Against the Person Act 1861 Life imprisonment
Casting stone, etc. on a railway carriage with intent to endanger safety. Section 33, Offences Against the Person Act 1861 Life imprisonment
Doing or omitting anything so as to endanger railway passengers. Section 34, Offences Against the Person Act 1861 2 years' imprisonment
Causing danger to road users. Section 22A, Road Traffic Act 1988 7 years' imprisonment

There are currently no plans to increase these maximum penalties.
