HC Deb 09 February 1999 vol 325 cc194-6W
Mr. Key

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list(a) his Department's recommended standard spending assessment percentage budget increase and (b) the percentage increase set by the local education authority for each English local education authority. [69576]

Ms Estelle Morris

The table sets out the underlying increase in the education SSAs for 1999–2000, after allowing for local authority changes of function and new arrangements for music and student support services. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has written to all English Local Education Authorities to urge them to match the cash increase in their education SSA with a corresponding cash increase in their education budgets. We will be monitoring the spending plans of authorities when they set their final education budgets to see whether they actually use the cash increases for education services.
