§ Mr. LevittTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will monitor the effect of increasing the allowed maximum weight of lorries on British roads on the balance between rail and road freight haulage. [56159]
§ Ms Glenda JacksonMy Department will continue to monitor domestic freight transport by mode including the balance of freight between road and rail as well as other modes such as water and pipeline. The effect of heavier lorries on rail will be an important part of the review of the case for heavier lorries which we will be asking the Commission for Integrated Transport to undertake.
