79WThe crime rate statistics for 1997–1998 recently presented to the Audit Commission for its annual review of police performance, confirmed that the crime rate in Essex decreased by 9.8 per cent. against the previous 12 months. The total number of offences falling to 89,380—the lowest since 1990.
