HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 cc753-4W
Mr. Martlew

To ask the Prime Minister what plans he has to commemorate the contribution of those civilian women who worked directly to support the war effort in both world wars. [60660]

The Prime Minister

The contribution of all who gave their lives and suffered in the service of their country, including those women who played a vital role in industry, agriculture and other civilian services in both world wars, is recognised at the ceremony at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.

I understand from the Royal British Legion, who are responsible for organising the march past the Cenotaph which follows the official ceremony on Remembrance Sunday, that they intend to make proposals which will allow greater participation in future years by non ex-Service groups and individuals.
