To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what is the forecast expenditure by National Air Traffic Services over the next 10 years as a percentage of his Department's budget. [59952]

[holding answer 15 November 1998]: The figures for National Air Traffic Services' forecast capital expenditure over the next 10 years are as follows:

This expenditure is funded through NATS' operating surplus, contributions by the Ministry of Defence, and from borrowing from the National Loans Fund which counts against the Public Sector Borrowing Requirement. The above figures exclude spending on projects which will go forward under the Public Finance Initiative and spending to date on the New En Route Centre at Swanwick, due to become operational during the period in question.
