To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what steps he is taking to encourage local initiatives in school governance and management. [59140]

Education Action Zones provide considerable scope for innovation in school governance and management. My Department is also sponsoring demonstration projects to show how schools can set up streamlined administrative systems. In addition, we are keen to build on the many excellent initiatives being developed around the country through identifying and spreading good practice. With this in mind, we plan to issue good practice guidance on governor training next year.
