HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 c725W
Mr. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made on his Department's review of those international human rights treaties which the United Kingdom has not yet fully ratified; if human rights groups in the United Kingdom have been consulted about their views; when the results of the review will be announced; and if detailed reasons will be given for decisions, with particular reference, in each case, to protocols 4 and 7 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the first and second optional protocols to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. [60415]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

We expect work on the review to be completed by the end of the year. A number of human rights groups have already submitted their views, either in the context of work on the Human Rights Bill, or in response to the announcement of the review. Any other group wishing to submit views should do so as soon as possible.

We will announce the outcome of the review to the House, with a summary of the issues and the decisions.
