HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 c822W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what results are available of the police pilot sweat/saliva tests of drug use among drivers in Strathclyde, Sussex, Cleveland and Lancashire. [60322]

Ms Glenda Jackson

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I have him on 24 February 1998,Official Report, column 146.

The trials undertaken by the police in March and April this year were for the purpose of assessing two examples of drug screening equipment for their practicality, robustness and suitability for general day-to-day police work, and not to detect drug use amongst drivers. The Department has discussed the outcome of the trials with the equipment suppliers.
