HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 cc758-9W
20. Mr. Swayne

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement about the use of computer technology in schools. [59123]

Mr. Charles Clarke

The Government view the use of new technologies as an integral part of their education and lifelong learning policies aimed at raising standards in schools, modernising Britain and equipping us to compete in the global economy of the Information Age. These plans are being backed with an investment of over £lbn over the next four years. A full statement of the Government's plans for the use of new technologies in schools and other learning institutions can be found in Open for Learning, Open for Business, a copy of which is lodged in the House of Commons Library.
