HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c584W
Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many unemployed people have been successful in obtaining jobs through the regional selective assistance programme, in each of the areas to which RSA applies. [59871]

Mr. Dewar

RSA is a scheme to increase or safeguard employment in the Assisted Areas throughout Great Britain. No figures are kept on how many of these jobs are filled directly from the unemployment register.

Under the pilot "RSA Priority" initiative, launched on 22 May 1998 in 5 particularly deprived areas of Scotland, 4 companies have to date been offered the opportunity to receive additional grant if they employ residents of these designated areas. The projects are at too early a stage to obtain any information on the individuals who will fill the new jobs to be created.
